JOY… THE PURPOSE OF LIFE?
My time in France taught me so many things, but the greatest life lesson I took away is that JOY is truly the purpose of life… Does this sound radical? It doesn’t have to be, but it may require some belief and attitude changes, which are not always easy, but always possible!
What if you decided to live your life as if the purpose of it was to experience as much joy as possible? What would you be doing differently, what would stay the same? What would it look like if your wildest dreams came true? Share your thoughts and post below.
LIVING IN THE FRENCH RIVIERA for TWO MONTHS! A WILD DREAM, SOME WOULD SAY….
I recently returned to Los Angeles after living in the French Riviera as an expat for two glorious months. Some would argue that this is a wild dream, but I created this opportunity for myself because I decided to take my own pleasure seriously. Give yourself permission to dream… My time there started by leading a women’s mind-body-spirit retreat that was so transformational it blew my mind. I planned to stay in the South of France after the retreat so I could experience all that French culture had to teach me, which was a lot.... As a psychotherapist and life coach who integrates yoga therapy, I am fortunate because with modern technology I can pretty much do my mentoring, therapy, and counseling work from anywhere in the world, and remain connected to my clients that come from around the globe.
WORK-LIFE BALANCE & LIFE’S SIMPLE PLEASURES
While I was in France, I enJOYed the simple things in life that so easily get taken for granted in the constant search for work-life balance that most women I work with, expats or not, experience. My favorite simple pleasures in France included Sunday picnics on the beach, daily shopping for fresh food at the provincial markets, sitting in the sun at a café enjoying a cappuccino and good conversation, savoring delicious home cooked cuisine, curling up with a good book for some alone time, and making new friendships and connections that will last a lifetime.
What simple pleasures do you enjoy that you can do more of right now? Any new ones you could incorporate today? Share your ideas and post below.
THE FRENCH REALLY KNOW HOW TO LIVE
I was talking to an American friend about my trip, and maybe she summed it up, "The French really know how to LIVE." If you have never visited the South of France, you absolutely must. It’s the perfect environment to awaken all of your senses, remember what truly matters in life, and allow for the opportunity to experience your true unique expression of joy.
As wonderful as France is, it doesn’t really matter where you live, if you are a woman you probably struggle with juggling many roles and responsibilities. So taking time to mindfully enjoy the simple things that bring you pleasure in life is a must. And sometimes it takes getting away from it all and going on some form of RETREAT to remember what truly brings you joy.
Life is short, take the opportunity to immerse yourself in another culture, and you will surprise yourself and learn to appreciate all the uniqueness that makes you, YOU... and what a joy it is to return to yourself, and return to your JOY.
