Mindshift Map: How to Believe New Things Volume 2

A few weeks ago, we started a new conversation about consciously believing new things for 2020. We talked about the idea that all creation starts with sentences in our brains—and that all else flows from there. 

First, we brought awareness to our current thoughts by writing down some sentences/phrases in our minds that we’ve held onto, believed in, and repeated to ourselves. Special focus was given to thoughts that seem to always make us feel the worst about ourselves. 

Next, we tried reframing those thoughts by rephrasing the sentences in a more positive way—or even just making neutral statements. Sometimes even a small tweak in a phrase can have a major impact on the way it feels inside you. 

Many people do not understand the limitless possibilities of personal belief. You can literally believe*whatever you want* to believe.

There are no rules or tests or guidelines. You can decide to believe you’re beautiful. You can choose to believe you’re amazing. 

NO ONE CAN STOP YOU. It’s totally liberating! 

Now…you may be wondering how you decide what new things to believe. A good place to start is with imagination and visualization. 

Before we can manifest what we want, we have to learn how to *imagine* the future we want. We need to learn to visualize possibility

It’s so important to create time and space for imagining new ways of being. Tap into your childlike wonder…all the joys of playing pretend. 

Oh…and don’t be alarmed when your old beliefs resist these new visions. Cognitive dissonance means having two conflicting thoughts in your head at the same time. It’s uncomfortable, and your old and new beliefs are going to clash. 

But that’s ok. We’re going to pretend anyway. 

So let’s practice. What do you want to believe? How do you want to imagine your life? 

Let’s start small with just one new sentence you’d like to be true about yourself or your world. 

1. Write down the new sentence you want to believe.

 

2. How does this thought feel when you think it today?

 

3. Why? What is your brain coming up with? What are the conflicting sentences?

 

4. Answer each of these sentences with an alternative thought.

 

5. Write a note from your future self—the one who’s already living this new belief. What would you say to you today?

 

I LOVE this exercise! It has helped me and so many of my clients believe things they never even knew they could believe…wanted to believe…were allowed to believe. If you do this for 30 days, you’ll see massive change.
