Mindshift Map Volume 4: Scan and Act

For the first part of 2020, we’ve been focused on how to believe new things. We started by identifying our old thoughts and rephrasing them to be more positive. We then explored possibilities by using visualization and imagination, followed by repetition of new thoughts to help them stick

There are also two other tools I’d like to mention for helping you along in believing the new thoughts you’ve come up with: scanning for evidence and massive action.

SCANNING FOR EVIDENCE

Thoughts direct your brain all the time. They tell your brain what to look for and focus on. Then your brain seeks “evidence” to support the belief. Your brain can’t take in the whole world all at once, so it scans only for the structure of beliefs you have.

If you think the world is a scary, harsh, horrible place, you’ll scan everywhere for examples of misery. If you believe you’re an awesome person, your brain will scan for evidence that that’s true—and, I promise, it will find it.

It may seem strange, but your brain doesn’t even need real facts. It only needs an interpretation of facts to prove itself true, and then it will find it.

It’s critical that you choose what you want to believe on purpose, and then your brain will scan and back up your beliefs.

MASSIVE ACTION

Another powerful tool for cementing new beliefs is to take massive action to prove them true. When I start to believe something and take specific actions in support of being the person who believes it, that action starts to build up.

Let’s say you decide you want to believe you’re a yogi. That may seem hard to buy at first, but then, you start going to intro yoga classes 3x a week. Then a month goes by.

Your new commitment to yoga surprises you (and honestly starts to amaze you), and you start believing. You start scanning for evidence that you really are a yogi.

Maybe you buy a mat, some special clothes, or even some props. Then you start liking it so much you bump up your routine to 4x a week.

You keep taking action, visualizing, and practicing. You DO IT. And finally, you start creating the result.

This is really where believing starts to get magical. You realize you’ve decided to believe the unbelievable, and that makes it believable. Once you learn this skill, you can start wondering what else is possible.

Creating a sentence in your mind, and then creating that sentence in the world is a magical experience—and you can do it every day.

Believing new things is possible and totally doable for 2020 and beyond.

This week during a mini session Kat (name changed for confidentiality purposes 😉) got an instant understanding of her lifelong struggle with perfectionistic procrastination. Two days later she emailed reporting she's implemented what we talked about and hasn't gotten stuck. 🎉

She's signed up for my 12-week coaching program and excitedly we start the life-changing process next Tuesday! If you've been thinking about changing your life for the better for good, you've got to check out my program and sign up for a mini session today.
